Weaving is an age old tradition in Ngamiland, palm leaves have been woven by artisans for generations with knowledge handed down from mother to daughter. The Ngamiland Basket Weavers Trust empowers women out of poverty, preserves Botswanas unique heritage while also giving the skills and tools to their members to navigate the modern world . Made from fibres of the palm tree called ‘Mokola’ in Botswana, the leaves are dyed with the roots of indigenous plants which transforms them into the beautiful variety of earthy tones. Each leaf is split into sections and woven resulting in a timeless and impeccably crafted lampshade.
