The Slow Fashion Season is an annual 3 month challenge from July - September which helps promote mindful consumption, more than a buzz word slow fashion season is about the principals of slowing down, making better and fair items.
What is Slow Fashion?
Put simply, slow fashion is the opposite of fast fashion. It encompasses an awareness and approach to fashion that considers the processes and resources required to make clothing. It advocates for buying better-quality garments that will last longer, and values fair treatment of people, animals, and the planet along the way.
The slow fashion season is about taking a slower approach to your wardrobe and about making changes that work for you. Here’s our top 5 tips for being mindful this season.
5 Tips for being mindful
Consciously clear out; go through your wardrobe, see what you’ve not worn recently or enough (the shockingly low average is 8 wears per item), challenge yourself to wear those things in the next 3 months. After the 3 months, pass on anything that doesn’t feel right for you to someone else.
Pass it on; if you’re ready to let go of some clothes, make sure they’re in good condition and then pass them on to a friend. Host a swap party, join the next online car boot sale or donate to charity shops.
Write a wish list; figure out if you’re missing anything from your wardrobe or home, write a list and use that list to guide your decision making process when shopping.
Support small business; by supporting small, independent business who make high quality products, you’re encouraging industry change. Every Beabond purchase helps us support other social enterprises as well as wildlife conservation in Botswana.
Figure our what works with your life; there are many changes we can all make to be more conscious. For some that means only shopping second hand. For others that can mean sewing or repairing something thats broken. Find out what works best for you and go from there. Its all about making sustainable change that feels happy and positive for you and the planet.
