Origins of Mokola

In Ngamiland in the Okavango Delta, the world’s largest inland delta, lies a community of weavers with a deep connection to the land, women living in tune with the land and nature. It was here the Mokola Collection was born.

The community of Ngamiland women weaving baskets from indigenous plants and their incredible craftsmanship captured our imagination, becoming interwoven into the Mokola Collection.

Our collection is created in support of, and collaboration with the Ngamiland Basket Weavers Trust, a community-based organisation of 50 women in northern Botswana.

Designs are steeped in symbolism and tradition taking inspiration from the natural word evoking the landscape and wildlife of Botswana; ‘Kudu’ takes its name from one of the largest antelopes with beautiful twisted horns, other designs include ‘Running Ostrich’ and ‘Palm Leaf’.

Handcrafted in India, with meticulous attention to detail each jewel is a testament to our artisans’ passion for perfection and their century old tradition of enamelling. The collection features necklaces, earrings and rings with details carved and painted with intricate champlevé enamelling and gemstones.

Beabond donates 20% of profits from every piece in the Mokola Collection to the Ngamiland Basket Weavers Trust helping to preserve Botswanas unique heritage.
